Too many people allow themselves to gain comfort in the familiar. Never realizing how stepping out of their comfort zone could have such a drastic effect on their lives for the better. Sure, you found your comfort zone, now what? Are you a person who always have to play it safe, never doing anything that will take you out of your comfort zone? It is usually fear or denial that keeps most of us from taking a chance on what we want out of life. It is time to stop settling for mediocre jobs, unfulfilling relationships, and barely salvageable friendships simply to stay within your comfort zone.
There is something to be said about a life filled with comfort and ease, never really experiencing all that life has to offer. Only those who are willing to step out of their comfort zone will experience that type of life that many people only fantasize about.
A life filled with abundant possibilities will not come to those who are afraid of change. The moment you decide to stay in your comfort zone, you will be cheating yourself out of many life changing opportunities. Instead of allowing your past disappointments to hold you back, use them as fuel to make you stronger and wiser as you continue towards your goals. You must be willing to push yourself despite your fears or frustrations. If you are ready to see real change in your life, it is time to leave your comfort zone.
To make a little bit easier, here are four ways to push you out of your comfort zone:
Make small changes. Most people find comfort in a routine. You may think something a simple as making small changes would have no significance, but you would be surprised. Doing this will inspire to want to experience new things and be less resistant to change. You could do things like try new foods, take a different route to work, or wake up an hour early. Just making these small changes to your daily routine will help push you out of your comfort zone.
Be willing to face your fears. Fear of the unknown will keep many people from leaving their comfort zone. They are so afraid of the possibility of failing that they will not even try. Do not cheat yourself out so many opportunities simply because you are afraid. There will be moments that you feel overwhelmed and want to return to your comfort zone. Instead of focusing on the possibility of failure, put all your energy into all the possibilities that can happen once you leave your comfort zone.
Talk to people who have escaped their comfort zone. Most people spend most their time with people who share their need for comfort and ease. They may not intentionally discourage you from leaving your comfort zone, but they do not make easy for you to leave. Find people who have done the things you want to do. Talk to them about the things you are experiencing. This is an excellent way to gain the encouragement and the accountability you need to push you out of your comfort zone.
Believe that you can do it. Self-doubt has prevented many people from moving out of their comfort zone. You must believe that you are capable of doing anything you set your mind to. Envision yourself doing the things you want to do. The more you believe in yourself there is no limit to what you could accomplish.
You found your comfort zone. Now you are ready to leave it behind for something so much better. When you do something every day that will push you out of your comfort zone. You will start to have better experiences, gain more confidence, and developed better relationships.
“One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again.” – Abraham Maslow
