Now that the Thanksgiving holiday is approaching, more people will start to take notice of all the things they have to be grateful for. Sometimes our need to acquire more can make us start taking our blessings for granted. The holiday season somehow makes us appreciate our lives and all that we have. Therefore, we should use each day as an opportunity to show gratitude and give thanks. Do not wait until Thanksgiving to be grateful. Our gratitude should not be reserved for one day out of a year. Be grateful for all the good in your life, no matter how small the blessing may be. What are some of the things you are grateful for?
Here are some reminders of why you should be grateful:
It is yours, love it. Complaining will never get you what you want. However, taking action and be grateful will open you to more things to be grateful for. Many times, we lose sight of all the wonderful things we have in our lives. Sure, you may want the latest and greatest thing out there but right now you should be grateful for what you have. If you have clothes on your back, food to eat, and safe home to sleep, be grateful.
Your family is key. Growing up, we can sometimes take for granted the time we spend with our families. As a kid, we had no choice but to show up for family functions. As an adult, it is our responsibility to make an effort to keep that family bond. For me, I had to learn this the hard way. Losing my brother when I was twenty forced me to appreciate every moment I spent with family. Spending time with family is how we carry on traditions and form everlasting bonds. Be grateful for every moment you get to spend with your family.
Real friendships are rare. When I tell you good friends are hard to come by, I mean it. The more you grow as a person you realize not all friendships are for you. However, there are those friends who are there for you throughout it all. They are supportive, encouraging, honest, and always there when you need them. Sure, you may have had a few disagreements but you always find your way back to each other. We all grow and change throughout our lives, be grateful for a good friend who will always be there for you.
A healthy life. Looking at celebrities and magazines is not the definition of health. A lot of what you see is a delusion, nothing more than photoshop and plastic surgery. Do not lose yourself in someone else’s definition of beauty. If you are happy with who you are and you do things that will help you stay healthy, nothing else matters. At the end of the day, you have to love the skin that you are in and be grateful that you are healthy.
When you treat every day like Thanksgiving you open yourself to have more things to be grateful for. Happy Thanksgiving!!
